Medical Student Rotations

Welcome to family medicine at WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital. We are here to make student elective rotations an enjoyable and educational experience for each and every student, as well as provide valuable resources and guidance. This guide contains general information that will be covered in detail during orientation.

When and Where to Report on Your First Day
All medical students should report to the Dixon Foundation Health Center at 30 North Fourth Street Lebanon, PA 17042, at 8:00 a.m. on the first day of their elective unless directed otherwise. Students should take the elevator to the 2nd floor and ask the receptionist to notify Regina Singh that they are here. Students will be given a brief orientation and be directed to their rotation.

Electronic Medical Records
Effective May 5, 2017 we will use EPIC for our electronic medical record.

Application Guidelines
We will begin to accept applications for the upcoming academic year on April 17. Please note that our elective rotations are open first to our affiliated Penn State College of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine students. Visiting student applications will be considered after April 17, on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please contact Regina Singh at rsingh6@wellspan.org to request an elective rotation application.

Identification Badge
Students must wear their school ID badge at all times while at any WellSpan locations.

Dress Code
Students must bring a lab coat. Men should wear ties. Women should dress in business attire. Open-toed shoes are not permitted. Students should refer to the hospital dress code if there are questions.

Scrubs
Scrubs are provided by the respective department when needed. Students are expected to return the scrubs at the end of the rotation.

Malpractice Insurance
WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital does not provide malpractice insurance to medical students. Students need to provide a copy of their malpractice insurance policy with their application. Most schools provide students with this insurance. If a student's school does not provide malpractice coverage while on an elective rotation, students must purchase a personal policy and provide proof of coverage prior to beginning their rotation.

Meals
Students are responsible for their own meals.

Medical School Evaluation Forms
It is the student's responsibility to provide the medical school's official evaluation form and appropriate forwarding information. If available electronically, please forward to Regina Singh  at rsingh6@wellspan.org. The evaluation form should not be given directly to your attending.

Absence During Rotation
Due to the limited duration of any rotation, attendance is mandatory. Should an emergency arise, please notify Regina Singh (rsingh6@wellspan.org) as soon as possible. Excess absence during interview season will be excused on a case by case basis. Absences will be reflected in the student's grade.

Adding/Dropping Electives
It is expected that medical students will complete the elective that they have scheduled.  We realize that things may happen and students may need to cancel their elective, but please let us know at least six weeks in advance, in writing, either via e-mail or postal mail, stating that the elective will not be completed. Application fees are non-refundable.

Housing Information
Free shared housing is available for up to 4 students per month, on a first come, first served basis.
