Program Director's Message

Welcome to the General Surgery Residency Program at WellSpan York Hospital!  Our program attracts surgery residents from diverse backgrounds and from multiple medical schools across the United States and internationally.  We offer significant education opportunities and large volume operative experience at a Level 1 trauma center.

We are dedicated to resident education, with protected education time weekly and an emphasis towards residents achieving all their surgical Milestones upon graduation.  Our residents work closely with faculty members and are involved in every step of patient care.  This team camaraderie extends to the overall family-like atmosphere of our program.  Our general surgery residency program does not include any fellowships; therefore, our residents have unlimited access to operative cases.

As our community adjusts to changes brought on by COVID-19, this year we will be conducting all interviews in a virtual format.  The evening prior to interviews, we will host a virtual “Meet and Greet” session with our current residents.  This will allow you the opportunity to ask questions candidly about every aspect of the residency.  We hope you can develop a true sense of what our program is about during the “Meet and Greet” and virtual interview day sessions.
